This volume presents findings and insights from contemporary thinking and research on the application of Information Technology in Educational Management. Management of Education in the Information Age: The Role of ICT analyses the ways in which Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been used, across a range of educational institutions, to support various aspects of educational management. The contents are organized into five sections:
-ICT for Managing Student Learning;
-ICT for Managing Educational Institutions;
-The Management of e-Learning;
-ICT Training for Educational Professionals;
-Reports from Discussion Groups. Management of Education in the Information Age: The Role of ICT contains peer-reviewed papers selected from the proceedings of the Fifth International Working Conference on Information Technology in Educational Management (ITEM 2002), which was sponsored by the International Federation for Inf… More >>

To balance the competing goals of reduced infrastructure and enhanced information technology (IT) skills, the Army must manage all its workforces in the IT field. Using Fort Bragg as a test case, this report shows how a linear programming framework helps gauge the impact of decisions that change the IT workforce. With a determination of who can do what in the IT field, the authors conclude that with linear programming the effects of policy changes can be quantified and better understood, various policies can be studied, and the approach can be extended beyond the installation level.To balance the competing goals of reduced infrastructure and enhanced information technology (IT) skills, the Army must manage all its workforces in the IT field. “New Trends and Technologies in Computer-Aided Learning for Computer-Aided Design” contains the proceedings from the EduTech Workshop, an IFIP TC-10 Working Conference held in Perth, Australia. The workshop aimed to explore the interrelationship between computer-aided technology and computer-aided learning.
Computation and communication technologies underpin work and development in many different areas. Among them, Computer-Aided Design of electronic systems and E-Learning technologies are two areas which are different but share many concerns. The design of CAD and E-Learning systems already touches on a number of parallels, such as system interoperability, user interfaces, standardization, EML-based formats, reusability aspects (of content or designs), and intellectual property rights. Furthermore, the teaching of Design Automation tools and methods is particularly amenable to a distant or blended learning setting, and implies the interconnection of typical CAD tools, such… More >>

This wide-ranging volume presents in-depth research into the effect of new information technologies on organizational structure, assesses their progress towards transformation and describes the changes they are making to long-established business process roles, cultures and working practices. The book is based upon a series of rolling surveys carried out between 1989 and the present day, and funded by leading organizations such as IBM and KPMG. It provides a detailed picture of a sector in transition during a period of anxiety and doubt dominated by restructuring, downsizing and experimentation with re-engineering. As the ”lean and mean” emerge, they must now ask themselves if their competencies will enable them to survive into the next decade as competitors, such as Sainsburys, Virgin, Microsoft and Ford position themselves to become major players in the sector. This book is a major contribution to the debate on the growth of knowledge work, the need for core organizational competen… More >>

This book records the very first Working Conference of the newly established IFIP Working Group on Human-Work Interaction Design, which was hosted by the University of Madeira in 2006. The theme of the conference was on synthesizing sketches within different approaches to analysis and design of human-work interaction. Authors were encouraged to submit papers about design sketches- for interfaces, for organizations of work, etc. – that they themselves had worked on. During the conference, they presented the lessons they had learned from the design and evaluation process, citing reasons for why the designs worked or why they did not work. In this way, researchers, designers, and analysts confronted concrete design problems in complex work domains and used this unique opportunity to share their own design problems and solutions….
