We are currently in a digital content era. With the increase in circulation of multimedia content globally via the internet it has lead to the need for reuse of content stored in archives; the utilisation of newly stored materials; partially finished broadcasting programmes and finished content. This book proposes to show solutions to these numerous content issues. It will discuss large scale archives for significant content and a retrieval method for large scale archives and remote editing. The book will also examine the protection of intellectual property rights, which is one of the most important issues facing content owners. Examines the design and implementation of a practical digital content production systemProposes to show solutions to various content issuesCovers various retrieval methods for large-scale archives using MPEG-1 streaming technology and remote editing using an original time codeDiscusses large-scale video archive systems which will enable high speed ret… More >>

The prevailing universal problem in environmental data management (EDM) systems is the significant incoherence between data collection procedures and the retrieval of information required by the users. In this regard, an integrated approach to EDM has become vital. The problems that must be addressed today require interdisciplinary approaches and much more sharing of data and information than in the past. This book focuses on the current issue of environmental data management in view of the difficulties associated with various aspects of data management, i.e., objectives and constraints, design of data collection networks, statistical and physical sampling, remote sensing and GIS, databases, reliability of data, data analysis, and transformation of data into information. The subject has an international, interdisciplinary nature and constitutes the basis for all environmental management activities. The book presents an integrated approach to the problem, consisting of: … More >>

Polyclonal antibodies, widely used in research and diagnostics, are conventionally isolated from the blood of immunised mammals. The fact that antibodies can also be detected in the yolk of eggs laid by immunised hens, led to the development of the yolk antibody technology as an alternative method less stressful to animals. Hens can be kept under nearly natural conditions and antibodies be isolated from the eggs. Further, the IgY-technology has the advantage that avian antibodies can be produced against several antigens which do not induce a immune response in mammals. Protocols on how to keep and immunise hens and on the extraction, isolation and use of antibodies from yolk are described in detail in this manual. For their work on yolk antibodies the authors received the FISEA (International Foundation for the Substitution of Animal Experimentation, Luxembourg) prize in 1997…. More >>

The life history of stone tools is intimately liked to tool production, use, and maintenance. These are important processes in the organization of lithic technology or the manner in which lithic technology is embedded within human organizational strategies of land use and subsistence practices. This volume brings together essays that measure the life history of stone tools relative to retouch values, raw material constraints, and evolutionary processes. Collectively, they explore the association of technological organization with facets of tool form such as reduction sequences, tool production effort, artifact curation processes, and retouch measurement. Data sets cover a broad geographic and temporal span, including examples from France during the Paleolithic, the Near East during the Neolithic, and other regions such as Mongolia, Australia, and Italy. North American examples are derived from Paleoindian times to historic period aboriginal populations throughout the United States and … More >>
