I began reading this book expecting a boring dissertation on economics and labor management. I was very impressed with the down to earth conversation style the author used to convey state of the art time and labor issues. Lisa has literally written the text book on how to sell technology in your organization, how to install the technology, and how to get the results that go not only to the bottom line of your business but also allow you to manage your workforce fairly and consistently. The book is an easy read and quick reference guide for how to do time and labor management right from start to finish.
As someone who is familiar with the old “time and attendance” systems, I was surprised to learn all the capabilities of the new “Time and Labor Management” systems. This book goes into great detail about their many capabilities, and most importantly, about how they can be used to increase productivity. The author also covers the essentials of system evaluation and implementation. If you have an employee population to manage, read this book and keep it on your bookshelf!
The author has laid out the argument and pathway for taking workforce data and turning it into intelligence. In a very practical, easy to follow style, she shows how management short changes itself by not utilizing the intelligence that underlies the data they collect on the workforce. Success is seldom achieved through one master stroke. It is more often the dogged application of intelligence. Edison allegedly had a sign in his office that said, It is remarkable how far some people will go to avoid thought.” Watson’s IBM motto was simply, “Think”. Lisa has put those ideas into practice by showing management how to think about people. No Boundaries: How to Use Time and Labor Management Technology to Win the Race for Profits and Productivity (Wiley)
