Attilio Stajano’s book has been published at the time of the finalization of the Council of Ministers’ agreement on the 7th EU Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration (2007-2013). Up to now, it is the most comprehensive outline of the European Union policy on research and technology and its programmes. The author describes in detail the institutional framework, the competition and growth targets as well as the policy and programmes of the European Union (EU) concerning research and technological development. The documentation on CD-ROM includes an extensive collection of the most significant documents, country-specific data and tables, reference materials and further relevant readings.
The work by Attilio Stajano is highly recommended to all those who are interested in the activities of the EU in the field of research and technology, ranging from applicants in the Framework Programme or from the sectors of economics and science to decision makers and main actors in the management and fostering of research policies and actions. It represents a precious resource and an exhaustive manual as well as a reliable reference and a practical help.
The author has actively contributed to the work of the European Commission for many years in the development of the European policy for research and technology and thus builds on deep and long-standing insights.
